Health and Welfare

Health and happiness

We want your cat to enjoy its time at Top Cat Cattery, so we have comprehensive policies in place to safeguard our guests, to minimise risks and maintain health and happiness for all.

Daily health checks

We continually monitor the wellbeing of all of our guests. We have a routine of daily health checks, and we maintain full records of their condition throughout their time with us. All cats are kept separately to minimise any risk of cross-infection, but if we do identify any issues, our local vet is on call 24/7 to deal with them. We also have a separate quarantine pen so that poorly animals can be kept fully isolated.

Cleanliness for peace of mind

You can be assured that we maintain the highest standards of hygiene. The pens are kept scrupulously clean at all times, and are fully cleansed and sanitized after each stay. The litter trays that we have for each pen are regularly inspected and cleaned, and if your cat has a little “accident” it is cleaned and disinfected immediately.

Play therapy, Cat Playing

Play therapy

We don’t just concern ourselves with our cat’s physical health and wellbeing. We recognise that some cats get upset by being away from home, so we are careful to make them feel secure through regular play therapy. We also know that some cats are shy or solitary, and prefer to hide away and come out on their own terms - and we respect their wishes at all times.

Special care

We cannot accommodate any cat suffering from – or showing the symptoms of - infectious or contagious disease. However, if your cat has a non-infectious pre-existing condition requiring prescription medicine taken orally or by injection, we are happy to administer this. We can also apply creams or gels if these are needed, for example to treat skin ailments. Senior-citizen cats are made welcome, with warm bedding and single-level accommodation to eliminate the need for climbing or jumping.

Our precautionary conditions

To protect all of our guests, we have a few common-sense precautions. We check all cats when they arrive, and we do reserve the right to refuse admission if there is any sign of ill-health, pending advice from a veterinary surgeon.

Guests must have up-to-date inoculations against Feline Infectious Enteritis (feline panleukopenia virus), feline herpesvirus and feline calicivirus (both of which can cause cat flu). Courses of vaccinations and boosters must be completed at least two weeks prior to boarding, and valid vaccination certificates must be shown when you arrive.

We ask that you give your cat regular treatment against ticks and fleas, and also ask your vet for worming tablets. These precautions will help maintain your cat’s happiness and good health throughout the year, even if they are not staying with us.
